He was a model to me of artistic labor and discipline, even if those early paintings were painfully amateurish. The painting followed me from Amherst to my first job in New York, and on to London and Delhi. IT WASN’T MY intention to start an essay about artistic beginnings with a story of artistic death. I’m especially moved by those first moments of validation by which an artist comes out to himself, as it were. It’s this, the inexorability of the correspondence between an artist and the world, that gives those first steps their magical quality.

IT WASN’T MY intention to start an essay about artistic beginnings with a story of artistic death. No one captured the massive cultural and economic disparities of my life in Delhi (and his in Lahore) like Toor. But quite unbeknown to me, Toor’s life in New York had opened up a new vein of material. Not everyone who sees a Michelangelo can go off and paint a Michelangelo.”THERE ARE SO many ways to begin.

The move to launch a flip foldable is in line with Honor's push into the premium end of the market where it's looking to challenge companies like Samsung and Apple . There are two styles right now on the market — smartphones that fold like a book and those that fold vertically like an old school flip phone but without a visible hinge. BARCELONA — Honor will launch a foldable flip phone this year, the company's CEO told CNBC, marking the Chinese technology firm's first foray into the vertical-folding style of smartphone that has been popularized by brands like Samsung and Motorola. The entry into flip foldables will expose Honor to a different price point. The flip style of phones, such as Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 5 are often priced cheaper than the horizontal-style folding devices.

Mick Jagger was supposed to be singing “Start Me Up” in stadiums across the U.S. this year. The buzz in the music business was that a tour was booked. Instead, the Rolling Stones in April made an inside joke via social media: a 1972 photograph of a debauched Keith Richards next to a sign that reads: “Patience Please… A Drug Free America Comes First!”

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsBENGALURU, Sept 8 (Reuters) - U.S. chip firm Nvidia and telecom-to-retail giant Reliance on Friday announced an AI partnership to create language models, generative apps and a cloud infrastructure platform for AI development in the South Asian nation. "Reliance will create AI applications and services for their 450 million Jio (telecom) customers and provide energy-efficient AI infrastructure to scientists, developers and startups across India," Nvidia said. Nvidia globally has a near-monopoly on the computing systems used to power services like ChatGPT, OpenAI's blockbuster generative AI chatbot. Reliance said the new AI infrastructure will speed up a range of India's key AI projects, including chatbots, drug discovery, and climate research. Separately, India's Tata Group too is set to announce an AI partnership with Nvidia later during Friday, a source with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

Vcg | Visual China Group | Getty ImagesMUNICH — Swedish electric vehicle maker Polestar plans to launch a smartphone in December alongside deliveries of its first car to be released in China, the company's CEO told CNBC. It will be the company's first car to be delivered in China, as it ramps up expansion in the world's biggest electric vehicle market. Alongside that, Polestar will take the unusual move of launching a smartphone carrying the brand's name. It stems from a joint venture created in June between Polestar and Xingji Meizu, a Chinese smartphone maker owned by Chinese auto giant Geely . And the Polestar smartphone would not be an attempt to grow market share.

REUTERS/Nacho Doce/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsBENGALURU, Aug 21 (Reuters) - Chinese smartphone brand Honor will relaunch in India through a licensing deal with a local company and is aiming to start domestic manufacturing by early next year, its country head told Reuters. Honor had stopped selling its smartphones in India and reportedly retreated last year amid limited marketing budget and less prudent portfolio management. It will launch three variants of Honor phones in India, with the mid-ranged Number series expected by September. The company, wholly owned by local shareholders, will make, sell and service Honor-branded smartphones in India. Honor Tech aims to capture a 5% share of India's smartphone market by sales volumes in 2024, with a revenue of at least 100 billion rupees ($1.20 billion), Sheth said.

Euro zone inflation falls again in June as energy prices tumble
  + stars: | 2023-06-30 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
FRANKFURT, June 30 (Reuters) - Inflation in the euro zone extended its decline in June as the cost of fuel tumbled, more than offsetting an acceleration in prices for services, a preliminary reading showed on Friday. The data, pointing to only the smallest drop in underlying inflation, was unlikely to sway the European Central Bank, which has pencilled in a ninth consecutive rate hike for July and is eyeing one in September too. "Inflation is still high and sticky but momentum is moderating," said Frederik Ducrozet, head of macroeconomic research at Pictet Wealth Management. The euro zone unemployment rate remained at an historic low of 6.5% in May, Eurostat reported separately on Friday. Big differences remain between euro zone countries, with June headline inflation falling to as little as 1.6% in Spain and Belgium and 1.0% in Luxembourg while staying in double digits in Slovakia (11.3%) and close to them in the Baltics.
